1960s and ’70s: Men’s Fastpitch in the Yukon

During the 1960s, teams fielded by the R.C.A.F., the R.C.M.P., Legion, Army, the Regina Royals, Ken’s Construction, and Camp Takhini (to name a few) faced off in men’s softball in Whitehorse, and the local paper continued its in-depth and sometimes cheeky coverage of the games.

”There’s always one nice thing about the Yukon. It never gets too hot (unless maybe you’re holding down a seat on City Council.) Tuesday night was a case in point. Over 100 fans came out to see the Whitehorse Senior Men’s Fastball League open their 1966 season with two five inning games. They could have gone ice fishing instead.”
